PONDA: Rajesh Naik on Thursday was elected unopposed as the new sarpanch of Bandora Village Panchayat.

Of the 11 panchas, nine were present for the election. The post fell vacant following the ouster of Ramchandra Naik in a no-confidence motion last month.

Addressing the media persons, Naik said, “Panchayat is facing major issue of garbage collection and disposal. I will make all efforts with support of panchas and MLA Sudin Dhavalikar for acquiring land from the Bandora Comunidade for the garbage plant on priority basis.”

He said, “The Fourteenth Finance Commission funds sanctioned for the panchayat through Central government are lying idle due to lack of vision and the same would be fully utilised to carry out the development works.”

He called upon the locals to pay the house tax to the tune of Rs 29 lakh.

Panch Nitesh Mulvi said, “All panchas hope that the new sarpanch would carry out the development works and use of Fourteenth Finance Commission funds amounting to Rs 70 lakh sanctioned for the development works.”
