MARGAO: Police Sub-Inspector Stanley Gomes is presently under suspension for assaulting the Navelim youth on November 23, at Margao Police Station premises, thereby causing loss of hearing and rupturing an eardrum, is no stranger to controversy.

According to very reliable and veteran police sources who are fully aware, in 2020, PSI Stanley Gomes had forged the medical certificate of the government hospital of three months and submitted it to the department. Gomes had not only forged the signature of the government doctor but also the seal (stamp).

A detailed report was then prepared after verifying the facts and cross checking from the government hospital and doctors by then Deputy Superintendent of Police G V Prabhudessai and the note sheet was moved to the higher authorities. But no action has been initiated and Gomes was also paid full salary during the three months without his service.

Even in the case of his assault on Navelim youth Edwin  Coelho, police are yet again trying to shelter him only with the suspension and departmental inquiry but no criminal offence has been registered against him for such a grave crime which has also led to a potential loss of an overseas job to 25-year-old Coelho of Navelim.

Surprisingly, no action has been initiated by the department, nor is it reflected on his service diary.
