PANJIM: Taking a dig at its political rival in Porvorim constituency, BJP has accused independent candidate Rohan Khaunte of canvassing as ‘BJP backed candidate’ with an intent to confuse voters.
Addressing media persons, BJP’s Porvorim candidate Govind Parvatkar said independent candidate Khaunte from the constituency has been indulging in carrying out a false campaign to divert the minds of voters.
class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"> “This candidate (Rohan), much before the tickets were announced was campaigning by claiming himself as BJP candidate and the same continued even after party made its stand clear by declaring my name,” Parvatkar said adding ‘the candidate claims that he is backed by BJP and will support the party if he wins the election’.
Khaunte was never in the picture as far as BJP’s list of candidates was concerned. Before me it was Shripad Bhau (Naik), Parvatkar said adding ‘the issue of giving party ticket to non BJP member does not arise when party already has its own workers here’.
The Party has already made a complaint to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) demanding its intervention.
Interestingly, Parvatkar has also accused some other party workers from Socorro of threatening BJP workers against campaigning in the area. The issue has been brought to the notice of election commission requesting to ensure that there is free and fair election process in the area.
Meanwhile, two more Nationalist Congress party (NCP) members- Party’s state secretary Dr Sadanand Singbal and North Goa Mahila committee president Amisha Jadav Wednesday joined BJP along with their supporters. Almost 100-odd supporters of Rohan Khaunte also joined the party.
