Garments sale
PANJIM: A discounted sale of branded garments is underway at Hotel Damodar, opp Club Harmonia, Hotel Fidalgo, Panjim and will be on till July 4 from 10 am to 9 pm. The range for ladies and gents includes jeans, cargoes, trousers, cotton tops, shirts, capris, belts, caps and more of well known brands such as Pepe, London, Provogue Belts, Oxemberg, Reebok T shirts etc, with prices ranging from Rs 99 to Rs 699 on 80 percent discount. 

Restricted water supply
PANJIM: There will be restricted water supply to entire Pernem taluka on July 1 due to power failure at Chandel Water Treatment plant. The department regrets any inconvenience that might be caused to the consumers.

Legal awareness camp
PANJIM: The Ponda Taluka Legal Services Committee will organise an ‘Awareness camp in relation to women and children in need of care and protection’ and ‘Save a Girl Child’ on July 2 at 4 pm at Prabhunagar, Malshe Wada, Bethora Road, Ponda, Adv K L Gaonkar will speak on ‘Rights of Senior citizen under Rules 2009 framed by Goa Government’, Dr Nutan Dev will speak on ‘Health care and prenatal sex selection’ (Save a Girl Child) and Adv Vanita Gaonkar will speak on ‘Benefits and entitlement of Free Legal Aid services and schemes framed by NALSA.’ Citizens of Ponda taluka may attend the camp.

Workshop on singing 
PANJIM: Swardhara Saunskrutik Saunstha, Panjim, will organise a two-day workshop ‘Swara Aradhana’ in Indian light classical singing and allied art forms on July 2 and 3 for full day at Kala Academy Panjim. Shirdhar Phadke, a renowned singer and music composer from Mumbai will conduct the workshop that will be attended by 40 to 50 participants.

Konknni course at TSKK
PANJIM: Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr (TSKK), Porvorim, will conduct a part time Konknni Basic Course in Roman script for beginners from July 7 to August 6 from 2 pm to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Though spoken Konknni will get primary stress, reading Konknni in Roman script will also be taught upon. Admission is on first come first served basis. Bondo on MTV Coke Studio
PANJIM: Percussionist Bondo will once again set the studio on fire in Episode 3 of the MTV Coke Studio on Friday at July 1 at 7 pm. MTV, the music channel, invited Goa’s very own to join their star studded line up of musicians to create music live on air for their latest hit show Coke Studio. Bondo accompanied singer Sunidhi Chauhan in the song ‘Bichua’. Other noted Indian artists to share the stage include Shankar Mahadevan, Colonial Cousins and more. Speaking about the show, Bondo shares, “The concept is great! It brings to television a unique experience as India’s rich musical repertoire of sound comes alive when all the performers add their signature touch to it.” He adds that interacting with artistes from all over was an honour.  Bondo during his extensive travels has performed with several noted musicians like Ustad Sultan Khan, Asha Bhonsle, Pandit Ronu Mazumdar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Braz Gonsalves, Louis Banks and many others. 





Verlekar is Curca Sarpanch
MERCES: Anand Verlekar was on Wednesday elected unopposed as Curca Sarpanch at a special meeting held in the panchayat office. The sarpanch’s post had fallen vacant after ex-sarpanch Subhash Dias resigned as part of the mutual agreement among the ruling group. At the meeting where all the 11 panchas were present, the name of Anand was proposed by Subhash Dias and seconded by Ramchandra Kankonkar.
Since Anand was the lone candidate to enter the fray, he was declared elected unopposed by presiding officer Nutan Wadkar in the presence of observer and Tiswadi BDO Gaunekar. Panchayat Secretary Timot Fernandes assisted in the election process. Speaking to media persons, Anand outlined that his major priority would be to take forward the process of construction of a new Panchayat Ghar, which was started by his predecessor Subhash and to see that the Talaulim football playground is constructed at the earliest.
