PANJIM: There will be restricted water supply to entire Pernem taluka on July 2 and 3 due to proposed shutdown of Water Treatment Plant at Chandel on July 2 for installation of 7.50 KVA Transformer. The Department as asked the consumers to bear with inconvenience that may be caused.
Powerline warning
Panjim: The newly laid 11 KV underground cable line from 11 KV metering to the M/s Queeny, Queeny Nagar, Valsao, Pale, and its associated metering structure have been charged on July 1. Public is cautioned to keep away from the line and the equipment.
Pro-Life Centre inaugurated
PANJIM: Human Life Goa recently inaugurated its Pro-Life Centre at Borda, Margao.
The Eucharistic Celebration which was attended by Prolifers and their families and friends, was held at the Holy Spirit Church on the feast of Corpus Christi with Fr Santiago Fernandes as the main celebrant along with five priests. Fr Santiago stressed the need for ‘Value of Life and Eucharist in Family’ in today’s fast developing and selfish world in his homily.
The premises of the Centre was later inaugurated by the Commissioner of NRI, Eduardo Faleiro who in his address said that the formation of the new Centre was a tribute to dedicated work put in by President Human Life, Goa, Milagres Pereira, and the entire team of active prolifers.

PANJIM: Porvorim Yuva Welfare Trust in association with Central Board for Workers Education recently organised a two-day Gramin Mahila Jagruti Shibir at Betim.
About 45 women from the locality attended programme which was conducted by Education Officer of Central Board for workers education, Mohan Sen.
Co-op Bank gave detailed information on various means of banking and benefits of savings account and maintenance of books of records. Demonstrations of decorative items made out of shells like flowers, wall hangings and flower vases were shown by Anuradha Kulkarni. A seminar on family planning and HIV/AIDS was also conducted.
Mumbai’s ‘Natural’ wins case
PANJIM: Mumbai’s ‘Natural ice cream of Juhu Scheme’ has won the court battle against its imposter ‘Tanco Natural’. The Bombay High Court confirmed its earlier order by restraining Tanco Enterprises (and its associates) run by R K Thane from using the name ‘Natural’ for their ice-creams, ice-cream parlours, signage and business in general.
According to press release issued here Tanco Enterprises has been tricking customers and unlawfully using the registered trademarks and copyrights of the Natural Ice Creams of Juhu Scheme.
R S Kamath and his companies, which own the brand Natural Ice-Cream and parlours, had filed a suit against Tanco Enterprise and Raghavendra Thane in the Bombay High Court which passed its judgment prohibiting Tanco Enterprises from using the word ‘Natural’ and other materials that caused confusion amongst the public. Further, the High Court ordered Tanco Enterprises to deposit proceeds of their sale in the court by July 19.
Planting of saplings
MAYEM: Siddhivinayak Devasthan Trust at Bordem-Bicholim, along with Sri Lenyadri Ganapati Devasthan Trust Golegao-Maharashtra will plant 1,008 sandalwood saplings at the Lenyadri mountain range on July 4 at 10 am.

Vasco Club celebrates Sao Joao
VASCO: Bhutea Bhat Club (BBC) Vasco celebrated the Sao Joao festival in a traditional way, with a large number of people participating with great enthusiasm. Speaking to Herald, BBC President Ravi Luis said they have been celebrating the Sao Joao festival for the last 62 years in true Goan tradition. Even though the rain Gods played spoilsport, brass band from St Cruz provided the much-needed enthusiasm among the people in the hot sun. Earlier, the revellers assembled near St Sebastian Chapel at Baina and offered their prayers for safe celebration and to the dear departed souls of the village before marching towards the wells.
Photography contest held
PANJIM: Results of The Radio Mirchi’s World Environment Day Photography Competition held in association with Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation, were declared on Thursday at Radio Mirchi’s office in Panjim in presence of Dattaraj Salgaocar who was the chief guest.
Winners in the category of ‘Flight’ are Shailesh Dabholkar, Naitik Jain and Anish Khandeparkar; in the category of ‘Blooms’ prize winner are Surendra Hari Naik, Francsco Xavier De and Naitik Jain; and winners in category ‘Sunlight in Landscape’ are Blasco Fernandes, Surendra Hari Naik and Mauvin Menezes.
Vismay elected president
MAYEM: Vismay Prabhudesai has been unanimously elected president of Nagzarwada Vikas Samiti Bicholim.
Other office bearers elected are P T Mayekar (secretary), Abdul Munaf Suleman Shaikh (assistant secretary), Subhash Lamgaonkar (treasurer), Sylvestor Fermandes (assistant treasurer and Maheshwar Pednekar, Krishnanath Fogueri, Makarand Kulkarni, Hitendra Prasad Nandey, Kiran Kauthankar and Sandesh Dhond (members).
Scholarships for top rankers
PANJIM: Hotel Goan Heritage, Gauravaddo, Calangute, a unit of Gulf Goans Hotels Co Ltd, Panjim, has announced scholarship awards for the academic year 2010-2011 for two Class X Goan top rankers of Calangute village studying in Calangute; for Class XII top rankers in streams of Science, Arts and Commerce (one each); and one scholarship for deserving Goan student for completion of professional studies. Charter Nite held
PANJIM: The XXXIII Charter Nite and installation ceremony of Lions Club of Navelim and inauguration and installation of Leo Club of Navelim at Jackniband, Navelim in Salcete was held recently.
Director of Information and Publicity, Menino Peres, was the chief guest. Incoming President John Martin D’Costa in his acceptance speech thanked the office bearers of Lions Club of Navelim for reposing faith in his leadership for the second time. The new Board of Directors for Lions Club of Navelim for year 2011-12, headed by John Martin D’Costa and new Leo Club of Navelim, headed by Cheyne Estibeiro was installed by Dr Edwin Araujo, Past Region Chairman. The other Board of Directors are Trava Mascarenhas, first Vice President, Premanand Sangodkar, Secretary and Nency Estibeiro, Treasurer. Savio Rebello, outgoing Secretary presented the report.

Education material distributed
PONDA: Ponda Kala and Krida Mandal recently distributed educational material to students from Ponda.
The Kala and Krida Mandal distributed bags, umbrellas, etc, to the pre-primary students and notebooks, bags, umbrella and uniform to the primary students of government schools in Ponda.
Mandal President Venkatesh said they had to initially collect information about the needy students from teachers of various government primary and pre-primary schools and later distribute the kits to the students.
The Mandal organises kids mela on January 26 every year by collecting donations and whatever funds remain unutilized are used to distribute kits to the students.
