VASCO(HR): Sarvangi Dessai of Bicholim won the 6th All Goa Solo Dance Competition ‘Damakha 09’ organized by Sunshine Boys of New Vaddem at Santoshi Mata temple hall, New Vaddem, here. Apiksha Kamat from Panjim won the second place while Anisha Peyenkar of Sada won third place. Urmesh Divkar, Tanvi Pai and Sheevani Sawant each won consolation prizes. Earlier, Revenue Minister Jose Philip D’ Souza inaugurated the competition, while his elder brother, Pascoal, along with former councilor Tara Kerkar, judges Gautami Kerkar and Vardan Prasd gave away the prizes to winners.
Pt Nehru remembered VASCO(HR): The All Goa Congress Committee Minority Department (AGCCMD) on Wednesday commemorated
the 44th death anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at its office at Zuari Complex, Vasco. AGCCMD chairman and Mormugao Municipal Council chairman Saifullah Khan was the chief guest at the function. The gathering observed a two-minute silence to pay the homage to Nehru and later garlanded his portrait. Khan said that reminded the gathering of Nehru’s famous saying “Aram Haram Hai” and urged the gathering work for the nation’s progress. Goa State Awardee Budan Shaikh and Abdul Gani also spoke on the occasion.
Mitosha excels at SSC exam MARGAO (HR): Mitosha do Carmo Carvalho from Cotta-Chandor, a student of Bhatikar Model high school has secured 93.16 per cent in the 2009 SSC examinations. A bright and talented student, she has excelled in other examinations and extra-curricular activities. Mitosha had stood first in the Goa talent search exam for std X held in February 2009. she had also answered Maharashtra Talent search exams and had stood first amongst Goan students in Std VIII and IX. She was also chosen as Samraat Student of the Year 2007-08 of her school. Daughter of Miguel Carvalho and Mariota Barreto e Carvalho from Cotta-Chandor, she has won prizes in various quiz and elocution competitions.
Aniryddha wins Mahaquizzer PANJIM(HND): The prestigious annual all-India quiz ‘Mahaquizzer’, made its debut in Goa with 52 participants going through 90 gruelling minutes. The quiz was won comfortably by Aniruddha Sengupta, who scored 78 points. Venita Coelho, with 34 points, was declared the best woman quizzer, Ashish Talwdkar (31 points) won the title of the best college quizzer while Ashray Adappa (9 points) was awarded the title of best school quizzer. Prizes were sponsored by Broadway Book Store and Monginis Cake Shop, while the venue was sponsored by Hotel Manvin’s. Goa had the fifth highest number of participants of all centres in India. Local organiser of the quiz was ‘Sunday Evening Quiz Club’ (SEQC) and the quiz was conducted by Nitin Manayath of the KQA. SEQC organises regular quizzes in Goa. St Anthony’s school excels PANJIM (HND): St Anthony’s High School, Margao, got a feather in its cap when the first batch of SSCE students brought laurels to the school achieving a pass percentage of 98 per cent. It was indeed a proud moment for the Margao-based school as this was the first batch that was put up by the school, passed under the guidance of Principal Merlyn D’costa. The excited principal, however, said it was due to the hard work put in by the dedicated teachers along with the able support of parents, that the school was able to achieve excellent results in the SSC examination.
