Goa demolish Maharashtra; MP down Rajasthan

MARGAO: Stany Braganza scored five times as host Goa hammered Maharashtra [WIFA] 11-1 to emerge champions in the West Zone 34th Sub Junior National for Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Tuesday. Goa led 8-0 at the breather.
Goa dominated the proceedings and kept the opponents on the back foot. Stany opened the
class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;tab-stops:5.25in">scoring in the third minute when he bulged the net. Four minutes later Stany doubled the lead with a scorcher. In the 13th minute Stany completed his hat-trick.
Devin Das under the WIFA bar was kept busy throughout the match. In the 15th Jayson Lucas added his name on the scorer list. Akeeraj Martins struck twice in the 22nd and 45th minute to put his team in a comfortable position. Captain Jesmon Soares put the issue beyond doubt in the 41st minute. Stany give his team 8-0 cushion in the 36th minute.
Crossing over, Goa continued to dictate terms and never allowed their opponents to settle down
They rested key players in the second session.
Delbert Fernandes made it 9-0 in the 46th minute. Medhaj Chanekar inflated their tally in the 77th minute.
Shubham Salokhe slotted past the rival goalkeeper with deft placement. Stany drove the last nail into rival coffin in the 80th minute.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh defeated Rajashtan 3-0 after leading 1-0 at the breather. Tarun Vikey and Lalu were the goal scorers. Both, Goa and MP have qualified for the final stage.
Sunil Pissey, general sales manger, Hindustan Coca-Cola Private Limited and Ashish Rai Nigam, unit district manger, Coca Cola Private Limited and Anil Kamat, assistant secretary, AIFF distributed the prizes in the presence of GFA executive members – Anthony Pango and Bishuit Themudo. Alberto Colaco, general secretary of GFA compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
