MAPUSA: SesaFootballAcademy crashed out of the tournament after going down fighting 2-3 to Gauhati Town Club in the AIFF’s I-League Second Division at Cuttack on Tuesday. Sesa were down by a goal at the break.
After resumption, Gauhati scored again to double their lead. Sesa worked hard and they finally managed to pull
a goal back when Pratesh Shirodkar crossed from the left and Marcus Fernandes latched on to bury it into the net.
As Sesa pushed forward for the equaliser they got caught out at the back and conceded again.
Six minutes from the end Sesa’s Pratesh was brought down in the box and picked himself up to convert the penalty.
Royal Wahingdoh topped the group with 17 points and qualified for the second phase along with Kalighat MS who finished on 16 points. Sesa were third with 14 points.
“It was a must win game for us and the boy’s were very tense and started to make mistakes. After going behind they felt they had nothing to lose and started to settle into their rhythm, but it was not to be. It is very disappointing as we only lost one match in the campaign,” signed off Sesa coach Clifford Chukwuma.
