After a long break of 40 days during the season of Lent, the commercial tiatr directors are all set with their Easter releases. Some of them released their new productions on Easter Sunday, while others would be coming out with their new tiatrs a little later.

The new releases during the Easter season to be continued till May-end include ‘Kazar vo Bazar’ by Prince Jacob, ‘Hem Oxench Choltolem?’ by Roseferns, ‘Faleam’ by comedian Ambe, ‘Morche Adim Jiye’ by comedian Domnic, ‘Mog Diyat’ by comedian Sally, ‘Chor’ by comedian Joyel, ‘Pattlean Vollun Poi’ by Selvin de Siolim, ‘Social Worker’ by Francis de Tuem, ‘Franky-chi Mama’ by Franky Gonsalves, ‘Tum Korta Thi Vatt’ by Jose de Benaulim and ‘Amchim Sopnam’ by Martin de Ponda.

In tiatr ‘Chor’ penned by comedian Agostinho and directed by comedian Joyel, a minister has been roped in for the first time. The Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude will be displaying his theatrical skills on the tiatr stage after garnering enough knowledge and showcasing his talent in Marathi dramas.

Throwing light on Govind Gaude’s role in the tiatr ‘Chor’, the director, comedian Joyel says that he is playing the role of a police inspector. “But as per his availability,” he continues, “he has shown willingness to act not only in the cities, but also in the villages. So it’s for the crowd to watch him wherever and whenever he is available for the shows.”

Tiatr ‘Chor’ was released on Easter Sunday at Navelim church and the director informs that it was a packed show with good response from the audience. “But the minister was not available as he is out of station and on a trip to north India. But on his return to Goa, he will be joining the troupe shortly,” he adds.

This time around there are five comedians presenting their new productions on the tiatr stage and the audience will be anxious to know and watch what each of them have to offer from the stage via entertainment through storyline, songs and comedy.

After entertaining the audience with his tiatr ‘Dadlo’ with 26 shows, Franky Gonsalves is all set to release his new production ‘Franky-chi Mama’. He says that he received good response from the audience, both in the villages and cities, for his last tiatr and is expecting the same for his new production, which was released at Goa Velha on Easter Sunday.

“You get the crowd depending on the cast,” Gonsalves says, “and many spectators commented that my last tiatr had many new faces.” “But this time around along with new faces, commercial tiatrists have also been roped in so that the audience enjoy a mixture of artistes,” he says.

As the Easter season is of short duration, some of the tiatr directors, comedian Richard, Pascoal de Chicalim, Joesan Afonso, Kissan de Chinchinim and Dominic Carvalho have decided to continue with their old productions, namely ‘Ghov Khevta Jugar Bail Zata Fugar’, ‘Hanv Goemcho Saiba’, ‘Tiatrist’, ‘Goemkarancho Fuddar Kitem?’, ‘Rest of My Life’ respectively.

Comedian Domnic’s tiatr ‘Morche Adim Jie’ was released on Easter Sunday at Rajiv Kala Mandir, Ponda. “There was a good crowd that dropped in to watch the show and the response was good, all being in a festive mood,” informs one of the artistes, Xavier de Maina. Other than the old artistes, the new artistes roped in include Walter for acting and Saby de Divar and Pierson for singing. In the comic acts, there’s comedian Dominic, Lino and Laneesa and the trio come together in a different avatar, with some good laughter pills for the audience. “There are 12 songs to entertain and they are in the form of solos, duos, duets and trio,” he adds.

Prince Jacob’s tiatr ‘Kazar vo Bazar’ was released at Cansaulim, Quelim on Easter Sunday and the audience response was overwhelming. Among the artistes, Peter de Pedda is the new entrant, with Prince Jacob, Alwyn and Evola providing laughter pills to the audience. There are 12 songs wrapped in the tiatr and it is a family melodrama, scripted especially for families.

Throwing light on his new production ‘Faleam,’ comedian Ambe says that his tiatr carries a philosophical opening with some eye-catching scenes. It was released at Bainginim on Easter Sunday and the artistes roped in Moses de Divar, Satyawant Tari, Peter Correia, Jose Mascarenhas, Shenaya, Sonia, Petricia, comedian Ben, Gladwin and others.

The 18th production of comedian Sally ‘Mog Diyat’ was released on Easter Sunday with two shows at Sanvordem and Canacona. Comedian Richard has been roped in for the comedy and there are 9 songs included in the show.

Francis de Tuem’s ‘Social Worker’ has a great balance of highlighting various social issues that are currently haunting Goa as well as high dose of laughter with both the comedy skits and the songs. As the name suggests, the tiatr hopes to infuse the spirit of Goans taking on social issues themselves. “There are many social issues that are pirnted on the newspapers everyday but unfortunately it doesn’t reach out to the audience who don’t read the newspapers and are not aware of what is happening in our Goa. Through the tiatr, I want to create awareness about the various current issues by reaching out to every corner of Goa right from Pernem to Canacona. There are many social workers in Goa, who are working tirelessly to save what is remaining of our beautiful state. But some social workers are tarnishing their name by taking bribes and compromising. But people should not lose faith in those who are working faithfully. So far, I have 39 shows which include 18 shows in the cities,” concludes Francis de Tuem.
