Goan Statehood

Dr Jack de Sequeira is considered the Architect of the ‘Opinion Poll of Goa’. He was the founding father and President of United Goan Party and the first opposition leader in the Goa Legislative Assembly. He worked very hard to mobilize the Goans to protect separate identity and prevent its merger with Maharashtra. The Opinion Poll held on January 16, 1967 decided the question of merger forever. When he died on October 17, 1989, Goa had already attained statehood. This special cover was sponsored by Konkani Kala Mandir, Merces, Goa to commemorate his birth centenary on April 20, 2015 with a Santa Cruz place cancellation with a map of Goa and Opinion Poll Party symbol, Two Leaves.

A special cover released by the Department of Posts to commemorate the World Life Day 2022 on March 3, 2022, has the following

A 6 Naipaisa Postcard with a special SFX cancellation of January 6, 1965 and issued by the Department of Posts, Government of India, during the 12th Saint Francis Xavier Exposition held from November 24, 1964 to January 6, 1965 

Language and Literature

A special cover with a Cachet of Shenoi Goembab (Father of Modern Konkani Language) Birth Centenary (1877-1977) and a cancellation of Shenoi Goembab, third Philatelic Exhibition held at Panjim on November 14, 1976. 

Personalities of Goa
Damodar Dharmananda Kosambi was an Indian polymath with interests in mathematics, statistics, philology, history, and genetics. He contributed to genetics by introducing the Kosambi map function. In statistics, he was the first person to develop orthogonal infinite series expressions for stochastic processes via the Kosambi–Karhunen–Loève theorem. He is also well known for his work in numismatics and for compiling critical editions of ancient Sanskrit texts.

Festivals of Goa
Carnival in Goa is the largest in India and one of the few traditional celebrations of the Western Christian holiday in Asia.

Mario Miranda was an Indian cartoonist and painter based in Loutolim. His cartoons and characters are famous all over the world. Deenanath Mangeshkar was a well-known Marathi theatre actor, a Natya Sangeet musician and a Hindustani classical vocalist. Dekhni is a semi classical Goan dance form. Fashion 
Wendell Rodricks was an Indian fashion designer and author based in Goa. In 2014, the Government of India conferred upon him its fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri. His fashion design was included in the Indian Fashion Series 4.

Silver Jubilee of Goa Liberation
A special cover was released by the Department of Posts, to commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebrations, December. 1986. A special cover released during the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Goa Liberation, with the map of Goa and a burning torch and a broken chain depicting the freedom and a special cancellation of Azad Maidan cancelation of GOAPEX 1986. 

Golden Jubilee of Goa Liberation
A First Day cover was released on December 19, 2011 by the Department of Posts, Government of India on December 19, 2011 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Goa Liberation.
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
A special cover to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Goa Liberation was released by the PM Narendra Modi at the Shyama Prasad Memorial Stadium, Bambolim, on December 19, 2021, with a My stamp of Goa@60. 

Freedom Fighters of Goa 
Tristão de Bragança Cunha, alternatively spelled as Tristao de Braganza Cunha, was a prominent Indian nationalist and anti-colonial activist from Goa (then part of Portuguese India). He is popularly known as the ‘Father of Goan Nationalism’, and was the organiser of the first movement to end Portuguese rule in Goa.  

Unsung Heroes of Goan Freedom Struggle

Voice of Goa Liberation
During Goa’s liberation movement, Libia Lobo used to run an underground radio service called ‘Voz de Liberdade’ in Portuguese, ‘Goenche Sadvonecho Awaz’ in Konkani and the ‘Voice of Freedom’ in English. The broadcasts started in 1955 from the jungles of Amboli bordering Goa. 

Motor Pilot Taxi 
A unique mode of transport to Goans is the motor pilot taxi, a special cover on it was recently released and this is a carried cover from the Head Post Office, Panjim, Goa to the Velha, Goa (Old Goa) on a Typical Motor Pilot Taxi with the signature of the carrier on December 2, 2021, one day prior to the Old Goa Feast. 

Culture and Heritage 
There are several cultural and heritage monuments and buildings, Churches, Temples and Architectural Monuments in Goa, which are worth visiting including the UNESCO Heritage sites.

National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula
The National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula is one of the oldest, Laboratories which was established on January 1, 1966 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research as part of its constituent Laboratories. A Special cover was released to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Oceanography and 50 years of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (1961-1965). The Institute launched several National and International programs such as Antarctic Expeditions, Poly Metallic Nodules Exploration etc. A First Day Cover of the First Indian Antarctica Expedition which was led by late Dr S Z Qasim, who was then Director of the National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa. 

Goan beaches 
Goa has some of the World famous beaches. Two such beaches namely Anjuna and Bogmalo are depicted in stamps released by the Government of India and a First Day Cover with the above beach stamps was released long back on August 11, 1997.
