Practice makes her vocals perfect

A Class 11 student, Yuti Prahar Sanvordekar, recently won the first place in the patriotic singing national level competition, 20th Cultural Forum of Performance Arts – 2024, in Pune. Her dedication to the arts began at the tender age of three and her practice still continues to strengthen her talent. As she has qualified for the next round of the contest, she will be heading to Dubai to participate at the international level competition this September

Her confidence shines on stage which not only wins competitions that she participates in but also the hearts of the audience. Such is the charm of this young girl from Sanvordem, Yuti Prahar Sanvordekar, who recently came home victorious from the national level competition in Pune. Yuti participated in the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh's Global Council of Art & Culture, 20th Cultural Forum of Performing Arts-2024. She participated in two competitions and won the first place for the Patriotic Singing Competition.

Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh (ABSS), an organization in Pune, organises the All India multilingual drama, dance, music contest at the national level. An official partner of UNESCO, the winning participants qualify for the international level competition, competing against participants from the neighbouring countries. This will be Yuti’s second competition at an international level and she is pretty excited about it. “I felt very nice and I was confident to participate in the competition. I have yet to decide what I will be singing for the next competition in Dubai but I am undergoing vocal training daily,” says Yuti.

The competition has four categories for singing, classical, semi-classical, filmy and patriotic. Yuti participated in the Filmy competition for which she won the second place and for the Patriotic competition, she performed the Lata Mangeshkar song, ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo’. The overall competition had over 4000 participants while the final patriotic singing competition had ten contestants. The win gave Yuti a boost as it was her first time in the competition as well as it offered her the opportunity to participate in the competition in Dubai.

Daughter of Prahar and Deepali Sanvordekar and younger sister to Yash, Yuti has been showcasing her versatility in different fields of art and culture. It takes years of practice to reach perfection, but Yuti has been on this journey since the age of three years. A well-known artiste from Goa, Yuti has been known for her flair in singing, dancing and playing musical instruments like the harmonium and sitar. Her dedication to her craft and the unwavering support of her parents have propelled her to great heights, earning her numerous accolades and recognition both in Goa and internationally. “Yuti is a true all-rounder. She has triumphed in numerous All Goa Singing Competitions, establishing herself in the Goan music scene. Her talent has been recognized at various singing sessions alongside famous Goan singers,” says Prahar, who always accompanies Yuti for all her competitions.

Yuti is an international gold medalist who has represented Goa at the state level and India at the national and international levels. She won the gold medal for India at the 3rd Mount Everest International Music and Dance Sports Championship 2023 in Nepal.

Yuti has been training since the age of three years and was just five years old when her song, ‘Komya Komya’ was recorded by the Art and Culture Department for the seven-song album, ‘Komya Komya Saad Ghal,’ making her the youngest singer for the project. She has won the first place at different competitions in the state including Voice of Ravindra Bhavan for three consecutive years, Baal Kalaakar by SAI Sports and Cultural Club and competitions organised by Patrakar Sangh, Chanderi Festival and the Shenoy Goybab singing competition.

Besides being featured in the Konkani songs CD ‘Parijatach Parmarmalit Phulaan’, she has also sung Konkani video songs like ‘Pavs Pavs Khelya Ami’ which was composed by Akshay Naik with lyrics by John Aguiar, cinematography by Uddhav Kerkar and produced by Sanvordem Gymkhana and ‘Damodara Roop Tujhe’ which was composed by Akshay Naik with cinematography by Uddhav Kerkar and directed by Yash, Deepali and Prahar Sanvordekar. “Yuti loves singing cover songs which are uploaded on her YouTube channel. She recently sang a song for John Aguiar which is dedicated to Devi Mhalasa which will be released in August,” says Prahar. As an artist, Yuti's recent carving of Lairai Devi went viral online.

When it comes to her academic, a former student of Shree Sharda English High School, Sanvordem, Yuti was awarded as the all rounder of the year. She passed her board examination and stood first in her school with 85 percent. She is now pursuing Science at Chandrabaga Higher Secondary School, Sanvordem. “She was awarded by her school as the Best Performer for consecutive years in classes 1 and 4. Yuti has excelled in various extracurricular activities such as elocution competitions, storytelling competitions, debate competitions, badminton tournaments, drawing competitions, and painting. Yuti's talents extend to editing and videography, making her a truly versatile artist,” adds Prahar.

With a tight time schedule, progressing from school to higher secondary school, Yuti is practising daily for two hours with her harmonium besides attending daily vocal training classes at Sharada Kala Mandir, Curchorem and online classical singing vocal training with coaches based in Mumbai. Her favourite singer has always been Lata Mangeshkar. "Yuti has been selected for the reality show 'Shehzade Hunar Ke,' showcasing her diverse talents to a broader audience. She has received a good response from reality shows this year," says Prahar with optimism for a brighter future for his teenage daughter.
