The latest demolition drive at Baina-Desterro may sound terrifying to the dwellers of the 203 shanties, but their encroachment on government land for so many years is not acceptable to such an extent. If they have legal rights, they must be given a fair treatment. The illegal ones should thank their stars for having stayed there for so long. Now that the government has decided to go ahead with two good projects - completion of the NH17B highway and Baina beach beautification – it must be supported by the citizens of Vasco as our economic development depends heavily on these projects. The people should also support Mormugao MLA, Milind Naik, as he has the right perspective in this regard.
