MARGAO: The headmistress of Government High School, Ambaulim, has issued a notice to one of their teachers for refusing to accept the deputation order to attend the Yog shibir event that was held on February 20 at Taleigao. The notice also pulls up the teacher, Juliet Vaz e Carneiro, for not signing the circular from the Directorate of Education pertaining to the event.

The school management has asked the teacher to file a reply, with a reason for her refusal to toe the line, within two days. The notice has gone viral on social media and among the teaching fraternity.

It may be recalled that the Department of Education through a circular dated February 14, 2023, instructed the heads of all government/government aided/unaided/primary/secondary/higher secondary and special schools to depute all their teachers and NSS, NCC, scouts and guides volunteers to attend the grand ‘Yog Shibir’ session organised by yoga proponent Ramdev on February 20 at Miramar beach, which was later shifted to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Taleigao.

This circular had evoked strong objections from the teaching fraternity and even political leaders from across Goa.

At the same time, Director of Education Shailesh Zingde went on record stating that no punitive action will be taken against any teacher for not attending the event.

Zingde is also on record stating that if any teacher feels unwell or is not able to attend the event, they shall accept it as part of life. “No teacher is forcefully being ordered to come and attend the Yog Shibir,” he had said.

“Your above action has been taken note of and you are instructed to give in writing to the undersigned within 2 days from the date of issue of this letter the reason for not signing the above mentioned circular and also the reason for your refusal to accept the deputation order,” reads the notice.
