PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Sunday said that one cannot have dual citizenship.

“One cannot have citizenship of two countries. Some have registered births in Portugal while others have applied for it. I have only asked to speed up process so they get either one citizenship,” he said.

“We are very clear, one has to be here or there. I have demanded that the process of providing citizenship should be speeded up,” Tanavade said.

The MP expressed confidence that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win both Lok Sabha seats in the next Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024.

The party will win more than 400 seats across the country, he claimed.

Tanavade said the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced after notification for the elections.

He said there is nothing wrong in demanding tickets but it is not given by making statements in the media.

“There is a system of distribution of tickets. Decisions related to tickets are taken by the Parliamentary Election Committee of the party,’’ he said.

Tanavade also said that the BJP will start shortlisting party candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections from January 2024.
