PANJIM: The Bailancho Saad has strongly opposed new on land casino township at Dhargalim, Pernem and advertisements/hoardings of casino gambling as women are being used as sex objects to entice people for gambling.
Bailancho Saad has demanded that no permissions be isssued to start on land casinos. The present casinos have caused substantial harm to the State and Panjim in particular where offshore casinos are operating in the Mandovi river.
The casinos in the hinterland will ruin the youth, lead to exploitation of women, will cause water stress, will disturb the peace, will take away rich village resources and make the people menial workers.
The influx of tourists and rich settlers will destroy the identity of the village and make locals a miniscule poor minority having little say in their local bodies, stated Bailancho Saad convenor Sabina Martins.
It demanded that the government stop the advertisement of casino gambling and the casinos be booked under the Indecent Representation of Women Act as women are being used as sex objects to entice people for gambling. At the airport, people are forced to take trolleys with casino ads which amounts to violation of human rights of individuals, who are against gambling, Martins said.
