PANJIM: The Goa Children’s Court, Panjim, President Judge Sayonora Telles Laad has held two serial killers Chandrakant Talwar and Cyron Rodrigues guilty in murdering a minor girl in October 2009. The Court will now hear both the accused on the point of sentence.

The Court however acquitted Talwar’s wife for lack of evidence.

Both the accused Talwar from Panjim and Cyron from Merces were arrested by the Verna police for murdering a 16-year-old girl from Taleigao on October 17, 2009 while, the murder was reported on October 11, 2009.

According to the police, the two accused took the minor victim in a car from her Taleigao residence to Vasco on the pretext of showing her examination centre and when the car was in motion both the accused committed her pre-planned murder by forcibly strangulating her in the vehicle itself by putting a cable wire around her neck.

Thereafter the accused robbed valuables from her person and disposed the body near a tower at Verna where the accused also attempted to burn the body in order to destroy her identity and evidence.

The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch police and the then PI Sunita Sawant conducted investigations and chargesheeted the accused. 

The court examined in all 68 witnesses to prove the charges.

Adv Govind Salkar and Adv A Dalvi argued on behalf of both the accused respectively, while Public Prosecutor Ana Mendonca represented the State.

It may be noted that during the course of investigations, the police found that similar murders were reported at Merces, Socorro and at Corjuem. Following these heinous crimes, the State government transferred all the cases to Crime Branch.

The Mapusa Court had already convicted and sentenced Talwar and Cyron to undergo life imprisonment in two murder cases. In one case, both the accused were acquitted by the Panjim Court on technical grounds. All the four cases were investigated and chargesheeted by the then PI and present SP South Sunita Sawant.

According to the police, both the accused are facing trial in a similar murder case in Mumbai.
