PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday launched Goa Industrial Development Corporation's (GIDC) Exit Support Scheme for the industries, which is aimed at facilitating the exit of non-functional industrial undertakings across several industrial estates in the State.

Speaking at the launch, Sawant said there are 423 plots, adding up to 12 lakh square metres area in the industrial estates as sick units, which can be transferred to new businesses who wish to set up shop in Goa.

“The transfer and land allotment process will be simplified and all licences, renewals and infrastructure will be put on fast track,” the Chief Minister said.

Stating that the plots and sick units have been lying unused since 1980 in various industrial estates, he said the Exit Policy will help non-functional units become functional which in turn will generate employment opportunities.

The policy’s objectives are to make it easy for industry players to exit from industries, which is part of ease of doing business. It aims to transfer non-functional units to new businesses. The policy simplifies the unit and land allotment process.

“As part of a new initiative, IDC Connect will solve the difficulties faced by industries by going to the units. A digital GPS survey of all industries has been done and it is now easy for GIDC to know from its headquarters which plots are vacant in which industrial estate,” the Sawant said. Under this e-auction of plots has already started, he added.

All licences’ renewals and upgradation of infrastructure in industrial estates will be taken up on a fast track basis, he said, adding the idea is to create a conducive environment for new industries to come to Goa.

Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho said the Exit Support Scheme is a crucial step towards revitalizing Goa’s industrial estates.

“This initiative aims to facilitate the utilization of this land by prospective entrepreneurs, ensuring that it serves its intended purpose of fostering industrial growth and development in the state of Goa,” he said.
