Candolim PHC acts tough against erring builders

Team Herald

Calangute: The Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) on Wednesday disconnected electricity connections and revoked no-objection certificates (NOCs) issued to builders as there were violations at two construction sites and the area had turned mosquito breeding hotspots.

Last month, the Health Centre had issued show cause notices under the Goa Public Health Act to a large number of construction sites/houses which were found to be high risk areas for vector borne diseases.

“The action was taken for not following conditions in the NOC as regards to vector-borne disease control,” Candolim PHC health officer Dr Roshan Nazareth said.

He added that the PHC has issued a show cause notice to the two construction sites and given five days to reply as to why their construction licence should not be revoked.

“With construction sites having been identified as top danger zones for vector borne

diseases, all construction workers have to obtain health cards immediately on arrival after undergoing a check-up at the PHC and failure to do can result in revocation of permissions,” stated Dr Nazareth.
