PANJIM: The Goa Children’s Court on Friday sentenced two serial killers Chandrakant Talwar and Cyron Rodrigues to undergo life imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs one lakh or in default to undergo rigorous imprisonment for murdering a minor girl from Taleigao in October 2009.

Both the accused Talwar from St Inez, Panjim, and Cyron from Chimbel were arrested by the Verna police for murdering the 16-year-old girl from Taleigao and dumping her body on Verna hillock in October 2009. Both the accused also attempted to burn the body in order to destroy her identity and evidence.

The serial killer duo have also been accused of murdering three more women. They were already undergoing life sentence since 2016 by the Additional District and Sessions Court, Mapusa in two of the murder cases. In one case, they acquitted by the Panjim Court on technical grounds.

The Goa Children’s Court President Judge Sayonora Telles Laad had earlier held both the serial killers guilty of murdering the minor girl while, acquitting Talwar’s wife for lack of evidence.

The Court further sentenced both the killers to undergo seven years rigorous imprisonment under Section 384 (robbery) and further ordered to pay a fine of Rs one lakh or in default to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of Goa Children’s Act.

All the four cases were investigated and chargesheeted by the then PI and present SP South Sunita Sawant. Public Prosecutor Tema Narvekar represented the State.

“Both the killers were brought from Mumbai and during the course of investigation it was found that it was series of four cases and all these cases were interlinked. We were pressing for capital punishment but Court sentenced them for life imprisonment,” SP Sawant said after the verdict.
