The culvert at Tropa vaddo-Morodd in Siolim Sodiem is in danger as the supporting retaining wall has collapsed.
With the rains battering the State, water has been gushing from the hill tops and Tillari Irrigation canal through the nullah here, the situation has gone from bad to worse.
It is pertinent to note that the retaining wall was constructed by the previous panchayat body and it only speaks volumes of the quality of construction. It is alleged that a former panch from the village had dumped a mounds of mud from a nearby construction site here which has led to the collapse of the retaining wall. Now the age-old culvert belonging to the Portuguese era provides connectivity to the village and if it gives way then villagers will have to take a longer route via Maina.
Traffic will have to be diverted and the village will be divided into two.
Time the village panchayat takes note of the disaster in the making before things go out of hand and precious lives are lost. Those responsible for the mess need to be taken to task.
