MARGAO: The South Goa Congress Committee demanded a clarification from IDC Chairman and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco regarding hosting of the controversial Sunburn EDM festival in South Goa.
Addressing a press conference, Savio D’Silva, president of the South Goa Congress Committee, accompanied by Moreno Rebello, Olencio Simoes, and others, asserted that Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco’s silence on the matter implies his support for holding the Sunburn EDM event in South District.
“We are opposing the proposed Sunburn festival event in South Goa and in Goa as well. This event is associated with drug-related activities. Currently, Goa is being labelled as a drug capital,” D’Silva stated.
He also alleged that a group of agents favouring Sunburn attempted to file a petition before the court demanding to hold the event in South Goa.
“Actually, the IDC chairman needs to clarify his stand on the event supposed to be held in the South. We must keep in mind that there is no proper infrastructure in this district to organise such events,” said D’Silva.
Moreno Rebello stated that his party and the people of the South Goa district would not allow the festival to be hosted here.
“We don’t want this event and will fight to oppose it. Curtorim MLA is Chairman of IDC and therefore, he needs to clarify whether this event will be organised on IDC land or not. The MLA’s stance on this issue suggests he is in favour of the event,” he stated.
He warned the government of agitation if permission is given for this event.
It is now up to Reginaldo to come out and respond to this and it remains to be seen, or he should at least clarify if the IDC land is indeed the proposed controversial EDM festival venue. This is the strong demand of the people.
Several activists and leading lawyers have said that Reginaldo, who was once upon a time a very local supporter of people’s rights, will come out and stand with the people of Goa in their opposition to Sunburn
