PANJIM: The Goencho Ekvott, a people’s movement, has slammed the Congress Party for allowing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to call the shots in the grand old party to choose candidates.

Taking to Facebook for the delay in declaring the two Congress candidates for May 7 Lok Sabha elections, the Goencho Ekvott has cautioned the ongoing happenings might herald the end of Congress Party in the State. In that case it will be ‘Mission Accomplished’ for BJP.

According to the NGO, Today there are rumours floating that the said former Goa Congress President was desperately using all his clout to get the ticket to contest South Goa Parliamentary seat.

It appears that the BJP just does not want the Goa Congress to field a strong, clean and new face in South Goa. The section of sincere and genuine Goa Congress leaders have threatened to resign en masse if the former President is given the ticket.

The Goencho Ekvott has appealed to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to wake up.

Meanwhile, the AICC has delayed the announcement of two candidates even after party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) on Wednesday night clearing the names and forwarding the list to the AICC President.

When contacted, GPCC President Amit Patkar on Friday told O Heraldo that declaration of names has been delayed till Sunday as another round of meeting is scheduled on Sunday with some CEC members. “We may leave for Delhi or join the meeting via zoom,” he said.
