Crime graph soars in Saclete

MARGAO: In Salcete, incidents of muscle power and violent crimes are on the rise, with reports of stabbing, attempted murder, and assaults surfacing from Margao and surrounding villages.

Shivaji Chawan, a 28-year-old resident of Flat No. 514/B, Chavan Residency, Madopa Navelim, Salcete, and originally from Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, allegedly stabbed Aman Shaikh, a 23-year-old from 218/C, Calconda, Margao, in the stomach following a monetary dispute. This act resulted in bleeding injuries and an attempted murder charge. Margao police have registered the offense under Section 109(1) of the BNS 2023. Chawan has been arrested, and Shaikh is receiving treatment at GMC Bambolim.  Chawan is currently remanded in five days of police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, Colva Police have charged Tyson @ Naseer Bin Ahmed Masood and eight others with restraining Haresh Rathod of Colva, Salcete, a native of Gadaga, Karnataka. The accused allegedly abused Rathod with filthy language, threatened and assaulted him with a stone wrapped in cloth and a rubber belt, causing fractures and serious injuries.

Additionally, a woman from Curtorim, Salcete, was stabbed by her husband with a kitchen knife, resulting in grievous injuries. She has been admitted to Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim Hospital.

Colva Police have also registered an offense against a resident of Gunea waddo, Varca, for criminal trespass and abuse. The accused reportedly threatened the complainant with an axe. The case has been registered under Sections 329(3), 351(2)(3), and 352 of the BNS.
