PANJIM: The non-functioning of one of the lifts of Junta House, Panjim was causing hardship to litigants and persons with disabilities (PwDs).
Many senior citizens and PwDs are facing hardship to visit the Goa State District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, which is situated on the fourth floor of the first lift of the building.
The lift is out of the order for almost a fortnight and the PWD sources informed that it was due to water seepage.
Velim MLA Cruz Silva had raised the matter during the Zero Hour in the Goa Assembly, stating that there was fear and anxiety in the minds of public and government servants using and working at government offices in multi-floor buildings like Junta House, as the lifts were often out of order.
Silva had said that people were facing hardship and there was also a danger of getting stuck in these lifts. There has to be a periodic maintenance, dedicated staff to operate and working emergency call system in such lifts, he had stated seeking directions to concerned offices to conduct safety audit of these systems and ensure safety measures.
The Junta House building has four lifts but the first lift of the main gate has access to all six floors.
