MARGAO: The South Goa District Collector issued directives on Friday for immediate action against illegal and unauthorised business establishments in the Fatorda area, in accordance with High Court directives.

Asvin Chandru, South Goa Collector, highlighted that these instructions followed a departmental meeting held on June 26 in Margao and were based on various High Court directives. He emphasised that numerous illegal structures and unauthorised hawker activities were reported along the roadside in Fatorda, violating the court's directives.

"All such establishments and activities must be removed immediately to ensure compliance with the court's directions and to avoid any contempt," stated the Collector.

The 2010 notification specifies that no hand carts, gaddas, hawkers, food vendors, furniture marts, or similar sales activities are permitted within a 50-metre radius of all road junctions, circles, or traffic islands. Additionally, parking within this radius is prohibited.

In response, the Collector has instructed all relevant authorities to promptly remove illegal food carts, hawkers, kiosks, and other unauthorised activities from the roadside in Fatorda. These measures should be maintained continuously to prevent recurring issues.

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has been tasked with supervising and coordinating with all concerned departments to keep footpaths and roadsides free from illegal activities. The Deputy Collector is to initiate similar actions, while the Director of Food and Drugs Administration and Urban Health Centre-Margao must ensure food stalls and eateries comply with food safety standards and obtain necessary licenses before resuming operations.

Furthermore, directives have been issued to authorities to enforce these measures and maintain order in the area.
