PONDA: Former minister and Ponda MLA Shivdas Atmaram Shet Verekar, 86, passed away on Sunday morning after a brief illness.
He was the husband of late Anandi. The last rites were performed at 2 pm yesterday at Viashya community crematorium.
Ponda MLA and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Ritesh Naik and councillors were among those who attended the funeral.
Verekar was elected from the Ponda Constituency on a MGP ticket. Prior to that, he served as a councillor of PMC. He also served as Minister for River Navigation. He is survived by his sons Rajesh and Ritesh and daughter Rina Parab.
