PONDA: The Goa Bagayatdar Sahakari Kharedi Vikri Sanustha (GBSKVS) is set to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee on July 31. Addressing the media, Chairman Adv Narendra Savoikar highlighted the significant milestones and achievements of the association since its formation on July 31, 1964.

GBSKVS, a cooperative sector organisation, was established to protect the interests of farmers by providing them with a reasonable market for their produce. Initially, the association had just three to four branches, but it has now expanded to 29 branches across Goa, with a membership base of 9,500.

In addition to buying and selling agricultural produce from farmers, the Sanstha has also set up a cashew processing unit, allowing Goan farmers to sell their cashews under the Goa Bagayatdar brand. Today, the Goa Bagayatdar boasts a share capital of around Rs 7 crore and an annual turnover of approximately Rs 600 crore.

Furthermore, the Sanstha recognises and felicitates the best progressive farmers and the best-performing students of the tenth and twelfth grades every year, promoting excellence in both agriculture and education.
