MARGAO: Admitting to the technical mistakes in SSC Konkani question paper, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has sought an explanation from the question paper setting panel besides the Board’s scrutiny committee has decided to give one mark for printing mistakes.

GBSHSE chairman Bhagirath Shetye informed O Heraldo that explanation has been sought from the question paper panel on the issue.

It is pertinent to note that on April 4, O Heraldo had highlighted the issue under the heading “SSC students in a fix, complain Goa Board bungled up with Konkani question paper”.

Following the news report, the scrutiny committee held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue.

The parents took serious note of the question paper which creatred confusion among the students.

The parents had expressed deep concern over their children losing at least 5 to 10 marks on account of mistakes in the question paper, and difference in the question paper pattern.

The students had also complained that in question 3.b(i) the fill in the blank question created confusion as the answer to the same was already mentioned in the question, with a spelling mistake; but three more options were given in addition to fill in the blank. The students are likely to lose one mark on account of this confusing question.

Speaking to O Heraldo, Shetye clarified that there is nothing wrong as far as the pattern of the paper is concerned.

“The question paper pattern set by the Goa Board has been posted on the official website and hence there is no way out to change the pattern. The question paper at the preliminary stage is either set by Goa Headmasters’ Association or by the concerned school,” he explained.

Admitting to some spelling and printing mistakes, he said that the Board’s scrutiny committee had a meeting on Tuesday and decided to give one mark in Konkani subject.

“With regards to question 7(a), he said that there are answers in the passage with respect to question number 1 and 3 carrying one mark each. Those students attempting the mistake in question will get the mark,” said Shetye.

He said these mistakes should not have happened.
