PANJIM: Goa’s highest ranked police officer, Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh, was transferred to Delhi on Friday, with immediate effect and until further orders.
Jaspal Singh will be replaced by Alok Kumar, IPS officer of 1996 batch from AGMUT cadre.
The order in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi.
Kumar was presently on repatriation from Central Deputation.
The transfer of Singh, who is a 1996 batch IPS officer, was imminent after his role came under scanner following outcry over the demolition of the Agarwadekar house at Assagao by a builder by using bouncers, last month.
During the inquiry conducted by the Chief Secretary, the then Anjuna PI Prashal Desai, who is placed under suspension, had submitted his report stating that the DGP allegedly threatened and pressurised him to demolish the house at Assagao, on June 22.
The State government had also started the process to relieve the ‘controversial’ DGP Singh and had written to the MHA to transfer him. The government had further asked the IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi, who was on vacation in USA, to report for duty immediately.
On his promotion, Singh was posted as Goa DGP in April 2022.
The Opposition had demanded that the State government should relieve the DGP of his duties, and that he be made an abettor in the Assagao house demolition case. They had also demanded investigations by a high-level commission headed by a retired High Court judge to unearth the facts.
The State government later transferred the case to the Crime Branch, Ribandar.
