PORVORIM: Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai on Tuesday assured members of the Legislative Assembly that the government will issue identity cards to senior citizens within a month.
Replying to a Zero Hour mention by Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, the Minister said, “I assure you that we will deliver the identity cards within a month.”
Shet expressed concern about the fear and anxiety among the people, especially senior citizens, regarding the availability of various government schemes.
He mentioned that citizens aged 60 and above are provided with identity cards to access benefits such as government welfare schemes, discounted medical facilities at private hospitals, priority in legal matters, higher
interest rates in banks, discounted Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) bus fares, and tax benefits.
