PANJIM: As heavy showers continue to lash Goa, throwing normal life out of gear, the State has recorded 6.3 per cent excess rainfall for the season so far.

According to the IMD Goa, during a period of June 1 and 28, the State has received 34.8 inches of rainfall as against 32.7 inches of rainfall, registering a positive departure of 6.3 per cent.

However, as far as districts are concerned, South Goa received 12.2 per cent of excess rainfall while North Goa received 0.1 per cent less rainfall during the period.

The rainfall received by South Goa was 36.3 inches as against 32.3, an increase of 12.2 per cent, while the rainfall received by North Goa district was 33.2 inches of rainfall as against 33.3 inches, a decline of 0.1 per cent.

However, during the period of June 20 and 26, North Goa received an excess of 2.9 per cent while South Goa received a deficit of 15.6 per cent. 

Overall the State received 6.9 per cent less rainfall than the normal one during the period. As per the IMD data, the rainfall received during the period was 10.35 inches as against 11.10 inches.

Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours till 8.30 am of June 28, Mapusa received 4 inches of rainfall, Pernem 3.1 inches, Ponda 2.7 inches, Panjim 2.3 inches, Old Goa 2.7 inches, Sanquelim 2.7 inches, Valpoi 3.11 inches, Canacona 2.9 inches, Dabolim 2.6, Margao 4 inches, Mormugao 2.5, Quepem 3.5 and Sanguem 2.9 inches.

Meanwhile, the IMD issued yellow alert for both the districts from June 29 till July 2.

“Heavy rainfall with strong surface winds is very likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts of the state from June 29 to July 2,” the IMD said.
