In 10 years, 25,939 people gave up Indian citizenship in Goa: CM

PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the State Assembly on Tuesday that a total of 25,939 individuals have surrendered their Indian passports in Goa over the last 10 years.

In a written reply, he stated, “From January 1, 2014, to March 31, 2024, 25,939 individuals have surrendered their Indian Passport in the state of Goa, as reported by FRRO Goa.”

Sawant emphasised that surrendering one’s passport is a personal choice.

“The government has provided accurate information based on the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs,” Sawant added.

He also noted that the Government of Goa was not involved in any matter before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

“We are awaiting replies from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs regarding submissions or affidavits filed by them,” the Chief Minister added.
