Indian Coast Guard conducts maritime search and rescue workshop

VASCO: The Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 11, Goa, conducted a Maritime Search And Rescue (M-SAR) workshop for all the stakeholders of the State on Thursday.

The workshop was attended by representatives of various agencies such North and South Goa Collectorate, Department of Tourism, CISF, Department of Fisheries, Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), Captain of Port (CoP), Goa Customs, Coastal Security Police, Airport Authority of India (AAI) ONGC and oil companies.

Presentation on concerned topics were given by representatives from these departments. 

Indian Coast Guard is the nodal agency in the country for Martime Search and Rescue in the Indian Search and Rescue Region.  The workshop organised at Goa aimed at sharing of expertise, so as to improve coordination and readiness amongst various agencies towards enhancing the Maritime SAR besides revalidating Standard Operating Procedure.

Earlier, Deputy Inspector General Manoj Bhatia, Tatrakshak Medal, Commander Coast Guard inaugurated the workshop. In his address, he emphasised the need of use of latest techniques and safety equipment including better coordination between the concerned agencies for providing effective Maritime SAR and thus making Indian oceans safe. 

The training workshop included presentations & discussions on Maritime Safety, M-SAR organisation, SAR aviation and induction of new technologies. The workshop also discussed the proactive approach that the Coast Guard is taking to ensure the safety of fishermen at sea. This includes measures such as conducting regular Community Interaction Programme (CIP) and providing fishermen with information on the latest weather forecasts.
