PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said that the preliminary report suggest that the iron content in water bodies at Keri in Sattari Taluka is within permissible limits.

Following the media reports on the complaints by locals with regards to increasing content of iron in waters at Keri, Rane on Monday conducted a detailed review meeting with officials of Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources department (WRD) and Panchayat body of Keri to look into the matter of the iron content in water.

In a statement issued post meeting, Rane said that the latest preliminary report suggests that the iron content in water is within permissible limits.

“I have given instructions to the PWD officials to draw water samples and send them to laboratory for further evaluation. The officials have been requested to inspect for an alternate location to set up a water pump to continue providing clean water to the people of Keri Panchayat," he said.

“We need to find a way to directly pump water of the dam into the tank and send it further for filtration," Rane added.

“The PWD officials will be sending a detailed report on the findings in seven days. We shall be closely monitoring the situation. I request the people of Keri to not have any apprehensions," minister said.

He said that the prompt action is already initiated in the interest and for the safety of the people of Keri so that they continue to have clean water through the filtration plants.
