Is Goa witnessing Covid-19 resurgence?

PANJIM:  After a substantial period of relatively low number of Covid-19 cases, Goa seems to be now facing a resurgence of Covid-19 infections. As a result the, active count of cases is back into double digits.

Goa Health authorities confirmed the detection of four new cases on Wednesday, contributing to the current count of 12 persons testing positive for Covid-19 in the state. All affected persons are currently observing isolation at home as part of the ongoing containment efforts to curtail the spread of the virus.

In a testing update, 112 new samples were processed, with four returning positive for the virus, emphasising the importance of continued surveillance and testing in monitoring the situation. Amidst this uptick, there's a silver lining as one patient has successfully recovered from the virus, marking a positive development in the battle against Covid-19.

Dr Jorson Fernandes said, “There will be a resurgence because the virus wants to survive. It will mutate and come in a different form.”

Asked whether the new strains will be stronger than the Covid-19 vaccines, he said “the vaccines did not give protection against all strains and people got Covid-19 even after taking the vaccines.”

The only way to prevent Covid-19 infection is to follow the seven steps of hand washing for 25 to 30 seconds.  Dr Jorson lamented that in our public toilets there is no soap to wash the hands and sometimes there is no water either. “With all our development we have failed to upgrade out public toilets,” he stated.
