PONDA: Incessant rainfall caused a major landslide at Anmod Ghat, disrupting traffic on the Belagavi-Goa route.
Work was being carried out on war footing to clear debris as heavy machinery was pressed into service.
A massive portion of the road collapsed in Khede, Savoi Verem, forcing locals to take a longer route.
In another incident a tree fell on a moving car, but fortunately, there were no injuries. The wall of a house owned by Ramdas Naik also collapsed at Haveli-Curti.
The Fire Department personnel were kept on their toes as they responded to numerous calls related to tree collapses on roads and houses in the Ponda taluka due to heavy incessant rains
The locals from Ponda taluka, especially those living in mud houses, are concerned about potential damages caused by the incessant rain. There were also reports of mud wall collapse, beside trees falling on houses at some places.
People are praying for rain to recede to prevent further losses.
Similarly, those residing near the river banks and nullahs fear that their houses could flood due to rise in water levels due to heavy rain spells.
