MAPUSA: Loud music is back to haunt Anjuna Coastal belt.

Posters are out scheduling outdoor music parties which will blast the Anjuna coastal belt for this coming weekend and beyond during the Ganesh holidays.

Though having disturbed nights is an everyday scene for the people of Anjuna, Vagator belt, these parties are going to add to their sleepless nights.

With the long weekend stretching to the Ganesh holidays, the “nonstop trance and techno parties are back with foreign DJs announcing  nonstop “madness”.

The fact that this defies clear court orders of no outdoor music beyond 10 pm means nothing to them.

The High Court in its November 30, 2022 hearing, had asked concerned authorities to take stern measures to stop loud music beyond 10 pm except on designated dates. Following this, the menace of loud music parties in the coastal belt had come under control. However, the same is now being flouted.

Questions are raised as to if these establishments don’t respect the High Court order then one can imagine whether they will even care for the directions of state authorities including the pollution control board.

Some of the establishments which have all night parties through the week were supposed to have remained sealed for violating the Water and Air Act.

“Loud music parties are happening throughout the nights, right under the nose of the police and as usual, nobody cares to follow what the orders or rules say, a local from Anjuna said.

Ravi Harmalkar, a local activist from Anjuna said, “Nobody cares about the orders and the High Court who we call honourable nor they care for the people while the police playing deaf. These organisers have a nexus with the drug mafia and control the government as well as the government officials including the police to run their businesses.”

Desmond Alvares, former member of Noise Pollution Committee said, “Nothing has changed in Anjuna. All are banging away through the night.”
