MARGAO: A portion of the road at the entrance of the South Goa District Hospital in Margao has collapsed, exposing iron rods and creating a hazardous situation for patients, staff, and visitors. The disturbing sinkhole, formed less than a year after the road was laid, has been left unattended for several days.
Vehicles entering the hospital are facing major hardships as they navigate the compromised road. Locals have urged authorities to assess and repair the damaged road to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone accessing the hospital facilities.
To make matters worse, efforts to mitigate the hazard have been negligible, despite the heavy rains. Rubble mixed with garbage has been placed over the sunken portion of the road, with the protruding iron rods barely visible. Milagres
Fernandes, a concerned citizen of Fatorda, voiced his frustration and emphasised the need for immediate repair to address the dangerous situation.
“The deteriorating condition of the road, likely damaged due to the rain, remains unattended by authorities. Current conditions have forced people to take safety precautions when entering the hospital due to the sunken road being directly opposite the main entrance,” Fernandes stated. He also highlighted the danger posed by exposed iron rods a few metres from the hospital gate.
“We demand that the concerned authorities take immediate steps to repair the portion of the road before it causes harm to visitors,” he urged.
Ronny Dias, another concerned citizen, joined in condemning the authorities for their negligence towards the issue. “The said portion of the road should have been repaired immediately; however, the lack of seriousness from the authorities towards this issue proves how little they care for the safety of the public,” said Dias.
