Loutolim tenants refuse to part with khazan fields

MARGAO: The Loutolim Tenant Association has reiterated that they are opposing the use of their khazan fields for the construction of the new Borim bridge as per the current alignment as it will cause damage to the fields. They have also said constructing the bridge on stilts will not work as they felt a service road would be needed for that, through the khazan fields, which will cause damage.

“Once you do the service road, it is not possible to take the road. Now at present, if we go in the field, we are going about 50 cm deep. One person cannot go in the field. You have to take two persons to hold each other and come out and see same way. It is soft soil and you have to put at least three layers of rubble to make the service road,” said farmer Lino Fernandes, senior member of the Tenants Association.
