CM assures to increase night patrolling in Dona Paula area

PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate that the night patrolling will be increased in Dona Paula area to check the incidents of robberies. Sawant was replying to a Zero Hour mention in the Legislative Assembly by Monserrate, who raised the issue of increasing number of robberies taking place at Dona Paula.

Monserrate said there was fear in the minds of the residents of Dona Paula due to the increasing number of robberies reported. 

There was yet another break-in on July 22 where valuables were stolen by the thieves. This was the third incident in a span of four months causing panic among the neighbourhood, she said and urged the government to take measures to resolve the issue.

Mining co trying to lay off drivers of 60 years & above: Bicholim MLA

PORVORIM: Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye on Monday raised the issue of laying off of drivers of 60 years and above by the Sesa Vedanta company.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Shetye said that the mining company is trying to lay off drivers, who were approaching 60 years of age and those who had recently crossed 60 years. These mining truck drivers were losing their jobs as the company was declaring such drivers unfit to drive.

Shetye requested the government to intervene and halt the blatant eviction and inform the company to conduct a fitness test of such drivers, who were highly skilled and had served in the mining company for more than 20 years.

Mandrem raises issue of parking of heavy vehicles on highways

PORVORIM: Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar on Monday raised the issue of parking of heavy vehicles on the highways and posing risk to motorists and others.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Arolkar said that parking of heavy vehicles on national highways, especially at night hours, was posing a significant threat to the lives of innocent commuters. He urged the government to take immediate steps to address this issue.

Will address issue of water shortage in Vasco constituency: Sawant

PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that the government will take steps to address the issue of shortage of water supply in Vasco constituency.

Replying to a calling attention notice tabled by Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar, the Chief Minister said, “All the above reservoirs are structurally sound except for requirement of minor repairs to one overhead reservoir (OHR) at New Vaddem (last bus stop). The same will be taken up immediately. One old OHR at New Vaddem, which was in dilapidated condition, was demolished in 2017-18. The water flows to overhead reservoirs (OHR) and is pumped from ground level reservoirs (GLR). All the GLRs are cleaned periodically. Fresh proposal is also taken up for mechanised cleaning of all the reservoirs immediately after monsoon.”

In his calling attention notice, Salkar drew the attention of the House towards the constant shortage of water supply in Vasco constituency. He said the overhead tanks of Vasco constituency and around, which are linked to water supply, need urgent attention.

‘Despite OC, new market complex at Headland Sada not functional’

PORVORIM: Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Monday raised the issue of the new market complex at Headland Sada which is still not functional in spite of having occupancy certificate since 2021.

Raising the issue, he said, “The attention of the House is drawn to the plight of the people of Mormugao constituency with regards to the new Market Complex at Headland Sada built by Mormugao Municipal Council which is still non-functional in spite of occupancy certificate issued in 2021. Auction of the shops have been done and even Lease Agreements have been signed with some of the successful bidders who are waiting to start their business. People fear that if the market complex does not start, then it may turn out to be a huge loss to the State exchequer money.”
