NCC observes Kargil Diwas

PANJIM: Director General NCC, Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM said that the supreme sacrifices of  martyrs and the bravery of war heroes in reclaiming the Kargil Heights will continue to inspire current and future generations to safeguard our nation's borders. 

He was speaking after he paid his respects to the Kargil martyrs and laid a wreath at the Kranti Memorial at Azad Maidan, Panjim on Friday. 

Earlier General Singh flagged off a cycle and two-wheeler rally to commemorate 25 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas from Miramar to Azad Maidan, Panjim. Col Balkrishna Shirodkar and Lt Col Austin Collaco led the rally and later addressed the students at Azad Maidan. 

Deputy Director General of NCC (Karnataka and Goa) Air Commodore Arun Kumar, VSM, Group Commander, NCC, Belgaum and others were present.

, Col Mohan Naik,  Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion, NCC col Jesus Furtado, Admn officer, 1 Goa BN NCC Lt  Col Amol Lawate.

Col Rajesh Shah who fought Kargil war and was awarded a gallantry medal for his courage spoke to the NCC cadets about his experiences. 

A large number NCC cadets, Goa Human Resources Development Corporation (GHRDC) security personnel, jaycee members, Ex- NCC cadets and general public attended the function. 

On arrival at Miramar, the DG, NCC was received by IPP Ex- NCC John Aguiar, Sandeep Salgaonkar of JCI Panjim, and Pradip Sawant of Ex-NCC Cadets Association, Goa.
