PANJIM: Goa has turned out to be a safe haven for the criminals across the country. These criminals have made the State “their home” by seeking refuge from the law enforcement agencies.
The latest arrest of Pawan Solanki, an important gang member of the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang from Rajasthan in a joint operation by the Panjim Police along with Rajasthan counterparts, is another case in point.
According to police, Solanki was hiding in Panjim after committing crime in Sardarpura Jodhpur.
In a joint operation by Panjim Town Police Station and the Sardarpura Police station staff, the wanted criminal 32-year-old Solanki from Mandor, Jodhpur-Rajasthan was arrested. Solanki was absconding after committing the crime which was registered in Sardarpura Police Station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang is connected to the death of Punjabi pop singer Siddhu Moosewala and the murder of a businessman from Jodhpur.
This arrest of such a dreaded national criminal in Goa reaffirms the Herald report that with sun, sand and sea Goa is becoming the go to place for criminals across the country to take refuge from the law enforcement agencies. Though the police have been arresting the criminals staying in Goa the trend seems to be surging.
Panjim PI Nikhil Palekar said, “The Sardarpura Police Station had information about the accused being in Goa. They arrived with a team, sought our assistance and arrested him.”
Sources informed that the Sardarpura Police had information that accused Solanki was staying in Panjim.
Solanki was involved in the crime, wherein he along with his associates wearing masks, entered the office of one Jesaram from Jodhpur, assaulted him and robbed lakhs of rupees from his office and fled. The incident occurred on March 4, 2023, following which the Sardarpura Police registered an offence under Section 392 read with 34 of IPC.
The accused has been taken to Rajasthan by Sardarpura Police for further investigation. Sources suggest that he was staying in Goa ever since he executed the crime in Jodhpur.
It may be recalled that the Solanki and Lawrence Bishnoi gang members were involved in a daylight murder of a businessman Vasudev Israni in Jodhpur five years ago. Solanki had recently posted a video on social media warning his rivals of dire consequences if they stop him from executing his job.
O Heraldo had highlighted the fact how criminals involved in heinous crimes like murders and cheating people to the tune of crores have made the State ‘their home’ by seeking refuge. Solanki was absconding from Rajasthan from March 4.
This and several other cases have raised a big question on the effectiveness of tenant verification and beat policing.
