PANJIM: Goans will now be able to file a complaint online and report any crime happening across the State.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday launched the Goa Police Citizen Portal that is aimed at providing online services to the people under the Crime and Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS) which will give the State police access to the national data base.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said, “The portal will make police force friendly with the public thereby reducing the chances of arbitrariness and corruption. The portal also has a children’s corner, hence crime rate against children will decrease.”
He added, “The concept of allowing filing FIR online can be introduced only after the wrong notion about FIR is corrected. The concept of FIR will have to be brought properly to the notice of the people. People think that when FIR is lodged, the person against whom it is filed is a criminal. FIR is just first information report.”
Goa Police is striving towards paperless policing wherein registration and investigation will be digital. All data for the last 10 years has been digitised helping cops to access all information digitally.
The Citizen’s Portal is interactive and informative and contains information about Goa Police like organisation structure, police station details including address and phone numbers, tips for safety, forms for downloading, etc. In addition, citizen services or petitions like RTI, PCC, tenants, employees, servants’ verification etc. are also provided through the citizen’s portal which can be availed by citizens online.
Information about the FIRs registered at all the police stations is also available. Citizens will be able to view contents of the FIR registered, missing person details, unknown body details, missing/abandoned vehicles, proclaimed offenders, most wanted criminals which will be populated from the live data received from the police stations.
