MARGAO: In preparation for the upcoming Legislative Assembly session, INDIA Bloc MLAs gathered in Margao to devise a strategy for addressing critical State issues. Their focus was on ensuring effective floor management to counter potential BJP or coalition MLA attempts to stifle debate, limit session durations, or suppress dissent. The meeting, which included representatives from Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Goa Forward Party (GFP), aimed to present a unified Opposition against what they describe as an ‘anti-people’ government.

Fatorda MLA and GFP President Vijai Sardesai said, “The people’s opposition will rise as one against this anti-people government.” He reiterated their commitment to speak and act cohesively, representing all Goans and holding the BJP-led government accountable for alleged corruption and incompetence.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao highlighted the INDIA Bloc candidate’s victory in South Goa in the LS polls as evidence of public discontent and a response to threats to Goa’s communal harmony.

Opposition MLAs, including Carlos Alvares Ferreira (Aldona), Altone D’Costa (Quepem), Venzy Viegas (Benaulim), and Cruz Silva (Velim), pledged to work collaboratively to amplify citizens’ voices. They plan to scrutinize government actions, especially land conversions, which they allege are controlled by a “land mafia from Delhi.” Alemao accused the BJP government of succumbing to the central government’s ‘dictatorial attitude’. He promised that the opposition would address concerns about the State’s financial instability, women’s safety, tourism sector challenges, etc. Alemao pointed out that citizens have been sharing their grievances and expect the Opposition to raise these issues in the Assembly.
