PANJIM: The capital city of Panjim is set to miss its deadline for the implementation of the proposed Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which was to be launched on Monday, December 13.
Part of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) Goa Intelligent City Management System (GGICMS) set up, Goa is trailing behind other States where Smart Cities have already had such ICCCs up and running.
A few months ago, The IPSCDL had organised a tour for the councillors of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) where ICCC’s features were explained and they were informed about how it will transform the city.
At that time, it was announced that ICCC would be completed by the first week of December and go live on December 13, the date that marks the birth anniversary of former Union Defence Minister and State Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar.
IPSCDL CEO Ravi Dhawan had spoken about how they need to launch ICCC as soon as possible. A criteria for additional funds to be disbursed to the Panjim Smart City project from the Centre, is the launching of ICCC.
CCP Deputy Mayor Vasant Agshikar confirmed that it will go live at a later stage and miss this deadline.
“It’s not happening as planned as there has been a shortage of semiconductors and hence they can't import it as per their schedule,” said Agshikar.
He added that ICCC may be launched in February but that this deadline is also subject to the availability of supply of raw materials.
ICCC that is based at the IT Hub In Altinho will provide surveillance of Panjim and the entry points to the city like Old Goa, Corlim, Porvorim etc via CCTV network.
It will also help the authorities keep track of Smart City lighting, littering, solid waste management, parking management, traffic violations, emissions, theft, crime, and also provide WiFi hotspots.
Other government departments like the Transport Department, Goa Police, Traffic Cell, Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Services etc have also held consultations with the IPSCDL regarding the implementation of ICCC.
The Panjim Mayor and MLA are on the board of IPSCDL.
