PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday dismissed bail application of Gaurav Bidre, accused of the 2022 murder of assistant professor GauriAchari at Old Goa.

The North Goa District and Sessions court, Panjim, had earlier in July this year denied bail to 36-year-old Bidre with the judge noting that there are previous sexual offences registered against the accused. It was also observed that Bidre was not a native of Goa and may abscond.

On June 26 this year, the Old Goa Police arrested Bidre from Sawantwadi and currently residing at Old Goa on the charge of abducting and murdering 35-year-old professor GauriAchari from Corlim.

The victim was teaching at the Government College, Khandola.

In September, the Old Goa Police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the Gauri murder case. The police have filed 303-page charge sheet against Bidre under Sections 365, 342, 302 and 201 of IPC. It also contains statements of 49 witnesses.

Later, the police filed additional supplementary charge sheet against the accused comprising 30 pages and eight additional witnesses. Additional charge contained identification of the accused in Test Identification Parade and also transpired that the accused had allegedly initiated similar parallel relationship with other girls.
