PANJIM: Rain continued to lash Goa, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, extended the red colour warning for the State on July 19.
It also issued an orange alert for the next three days till July 22. For July 19, the IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts.”
For the next three days, it said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places with strong surface winds over North and South Goa districts.”
There were reports of two trees falling on the roads. According to Mapusa SFO D G Pednekar, a banyan tree fell at Verem while a tamarind tree crashed at Sangolda.
The Banyan tree was cleared by a team comprising D G Pednekar, Narendra Shetye, Bhavesh Shirodkar, Jitendra Bali, Saish Chari, Viraj Khandolkar and Prahlad Kotkar, and the tamarind tree was removed by a team consisting of D G Pednekar, Salim Shaikh, Laxman Parwar, Mahesh Majik, Neehal Govekar, Dipesh Karbotkar and Mahesh Korgaonkar.
