PANJIM: The Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Goa government challenging the verdict of the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal will now come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 6.

The matter has been listed before Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti.

Last week, the Mhadei diversion matter failed to come up for hearing after being listed for two days. Last week, all the parties i.e. Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra were hinted that the matters which did not come up for hearing will be listed next week.

Advocate General Devidas Pangam and his four-member legal team, Water Resources chief engineer Pramod Badami and his technical team, two consultants Chetan Pandit and M K Shrinivas will leave for Delhi on Tuesday. Two senior counsels Darius Khambata and Adv Venkatesh Dhond will represent the State.

The SLP filed by the State government in July 2019 was last heard on July 10 this year, wherein the Apex Court admitted Goa’s plea challenging the Mhadei Tribunal’s award.

Meanwhile, a 14-member study group constituted by the Goa government to conduct a thorough examination of the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Karnataka government for its Kalasa-Bhandura projects is learnt to have submitted its report to the Goa government for appropriate decision.

The study group headed by Water Resources chief engineer comprised engineers, who were experts in hydrology, foundation engineering, structural engineering and geo-morphology and environmental engineering.

In November last year, the Central Water Commission (CWC) approved the Karnataka’s revised DPR.

The revised DPR was approved  for implementation of the decades-old Kalasa-Bhandura projects in the Mhadei river basin.
