Team Herald

MARGAO: Vilma Cardoso e Fernandes of Sernabatim has filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, against constable Vikas Sharma and three other police constables from Colva Police Station for harassment and torture.Vilma reported that Sharma stole her mobile phone worth Rs 35,999, two £50 notes, and an ATM card.

She detailed an incident in May this year, where a man with a sword attacked her 75-year-old father. The police were called, but instead of intervening, Vikas Sharma and three lady constables allegedly supported the attackers and used vulgar language against her family, assaulted her and forced her to file a false affidavit.

When Vilma tried to use her phone to call for help, Sharma allegedly snatched it and summoned her to the Colva police station, threatening to implicate her in criminal cases. She alleged that at the station, PSI Vibhinav Shirodkar refused to accept her application to return her phone, money and ATM card. Vilma later recovered her phone by court order, arguing that its seizure was illegal. She also noted that her foreign currency has not been returned, and no offence has been registered against the attackers.

In her complaint, Vilma called for strict action against the involved police personnel, especially Vikas Sharma, and requested CCTV footage from her visit to Colva Police Station, which has not been provided.
