PANJIM: The Solar power plant at Pedro Arrupe Institute, Raia was inaugurated and commissioned on Wednesday at the hands of the Provincial of the Goa Jesuit Province, Rev Fr Roland Coelho SJ. The Solar power plant has been designed as a protective roofing structure and more importantly serves as a green power generation system, generating clean and green Electricity for the entire institute, taking care of its energy needs for the next 25 years. Installed under the net metering scheme, the surplus power generated will be exported to the grid through a bi-directional meter which will be compensated for by the Electricity department on a yearly settlement basis through a power purchase agreement signed for a period of 25 years. The 40 kw solar power plant is designed with minute detailing to ensure maximum efficiency of the plant. It is designed to generate about 200-260 units of electricity per day and a total of 65000-70000 kwh of power per year. This green power generation project is a part of the go green initiative of the Goa Jesuits aimed implement various ecological initiatives with the aim of caring for our common home, Mother earth.
